Equal Rights

"This, for the purpose of this celebration, is the 4th of July. It is the birthday of your National Independence, and of your political freedom. This, to you, is what the Passover was to the emancipated people of God."

 4th of July is a very special holiday. It is our Independence Day and this is the day we celebrate and remember what our fore fathers weren't through and how hard they hard to fight for us to be able to have the freedom we have today. If it weren't for them, who knows where we would be today. Would we have freedom of speech and religion? Would we be able to think for ourselves or would we be owned by the government, being told where to work, or what to do?I thank God for our founding fathers and what they did for us because without them, I believe this country wouldn't be as advanced as we are.

Introduction

Hello Everyone! Before I begin blogging, I'd like to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Cairone. I am 28 years old and a senior at Lehman College and I will be graduating in May with my BA in Accounting. I work full-time as well and just recently received a promotion at work which entails a lot more hours and work. I have absolutely no knowledge on the political system which is why I enrolled in this class. Political Identity & Political Culture

"Surely we cannot be certain of our spiritual democracy when, claiming to melt the nations within us to a comprehension of our free and democratic institutions, we fly into panic at the first sign of their own will and tendency." "Melting the nations within us" is referring to this country being a "melting pot" which is supposed to show that all nations are welcome and free to practice their cultural and spiritual beliefs. But, how can we be so sure of that when the minute a group of people practicing a certain religion, or someone of a certain nationality  practice their traditions, the country goes into an up raw.  I chose this quote because it stuck out to me the most.
